Hi All - just bought a 2004 N62 E53... changing the oil and all fine until I unscrew the filter housing and the paper element is stuck on the car... I can’t figure out how to get it off! There is a metal sprung push pin in the centre - but no matter what I do the damn thing won’t come off. I’m pretty sure I’m missing something obvious... but whatever - please help!!
Thanks

Re: New owner needs help with oil filter... hopefully won’t be too embarrassing!
From digging around it seems like this does happen sometimes and the only answer is to basically rip the thing apart if it won't pull off with brute force. I'm just worried I will break the central support... can anyone offer any advice before I have a real go at it tomorrow morning?!
Thanks
Thanks

As you’ve mentioned the only option now is to rip it out
Caused by prolonged life and running temps. The part that’s stuck in, is the paperside of the element
Once torn apart be sure to shine a flashlight into the housing and ensure all the debris has been removed, a long screwdriver and rag to clean and ensure all debris is removed
Ps it’s not just the N62 engine that’s troublesome, recent reports of F30’s giving the same problem
