Boot open button (Non-powered tail lift)

Post by weaselchops » Fri Dec 08, 2017 6:46 am

Hi all,

What are the boot open buttons meant to do on the non powered version?
It just seems to open the boot a fraction, I then have to pull it up by hand. That how it is meant to work?

The gas struts seem a little tired on mine..

thanks

That's it.
Just unlock's it for you if you just want to put something in it.

Yes, you have to lift the lid by hand after clicking it open.

The lid should go up easily in warmer weather but in cold weather you may have to shove it fully open the last few inches then the gas struts should hold it there.  If the lid sags down a bit the struts are past their best and should be replaced otherwise you're likely to bang your head!  Had mine done about 4 years ago (car now 10 years old) and cost was about £110 fitted.

Don't slam it shut either - just lower it by hand and push shut when the electric latch should take over and close it fully.

Hope this helps,

Graeme

Had the same problem with the struts and after catching the top of my head on the sharp corner I bit the bullet and ordered new ones £79.99 on eBay. Absolute doddle to replace, took 10 minutes and all you need is a small spade screwdriver (check out YouTube video). The difference was amazing, well worth it. Come with a 10 yr warranty as well. Look at this on eBay

I find the button useful when picking up the other half who has armfuls of shopping and because engine is running the doors are all locked
