Rear air suspension
Rear air suspension
Hi folks, noticed that when someone gets in or out of the back seat,i hear the compressor start to run but doesent really seem to raise or lower.can anyone tell me if should.
Re: Rear air suspension
Mine does that sometimes just for a few seconds about 10 or might be 5 don't take any notice any more.
Car sit's level so i don't see any problem with it.

Re: Rear air suspension
It’s pretty normally, though shouldn’t be overly loud
If concerned, jack up the rear and with a soapy solution spray the airbags to check for signs of perishing!
The wear pattern will be front most side at 10-2 o clock area, if you consider the front of car is 12 o clock
I was surprised when I had to change mine, nearside rear, relatively simple DIY, shouldn’t take more than an hour (conservative) my bag was perished and cords showing (typical BMW & N/s affected)
There is a couple of do’s & don’t if changing
Disconnect air from compressor side, this will require removal of undertays to gain access
Once complete & all buttoned up, Lower the car but keep its weight on jack, ignition on / run the engine to have compressor inflate the bag, only once inflated, do you lower the car
(Otherwise you overload the compressor & burn out)
I’d explain the simplicity of change out, however it’s best described on Arnott website

Re: Rear air suspension
Suppose if one was leaking or anything the car would not sit level but sits level all round.
Re: Rear air suspension
Very true, I’d suggest it’s a normal trait of the system working as it should and correcting the ride height

X5 Salisbury had a problem with the exhaust port on The air suspension valve block not sealing so letting air escape, so allowing the suspension to sag overnight .
He researched this and found a solution involving silicone spray to be the answer.
Worth spraying the bags with soapy water as well to see if the airbags are gone too.

Re: Rear air suspension
Hi there, re the Air suspension, if you still have issues with it, by all means private mail a mobile number to discuss the problem & we can post it here when fixed.
Re: Rear air suspension
I recently fitted two new air bags and it still gives a 2/3 second burst as I reverse out of my drive because it is an uneven surface where it joins the road. BTW not the reason I had to change the bags. The odd burst of air from the compressor is pretty normal.
