New to X5 M sport 3.oD. Initial thoughts

Post by X5Nelz » Sun Nov 26, 2017 8:33 pm

Hello Everyone,
I picked up the car on Thursday and was initially very impressed. After a couple of days driving I am now hearing all kinds of noises. Firstly the interior has squeaks all over the place, the quality of some of the plastic parts is terrible. I will try and tackle this myself with some PTFE spray. I have owned many  BMWs and this takes the biscuit.

I also have a knocking noise from underneath when going slowly over speed bumps ect, sounds like a knocking exhaust.

Hi Neil

Welcome to the club, sorry it seems you are having a few teething problems.

What’s the age of the car, mileage and was it purchased through BMW?

Some models have inherent rattles, my old F10 for example had the classic ‘drivers door post’ rattle and my older 335i had the front wing shake ;) One I fixed, the other BMW did!

I’m sure some more knowledgable members will be able to help, my understanding is on the whole the F15 is a pretty quiet machine.

Good luck and hope the car improves.

I can never hear the rattles, 2 noisy kids drown out all but the loudest noises. :-[

Its a 13 plate F15 with 55k
I had a tech look at it today who said they had the same issue with another one a few weeks back and it wasn't a major problem to fix so feeling much better now, Besides had it mapped today to 40d levels and it flys!

Ps no I got it private so come back there

Merry xmas everyone,

Just thought I would update my progress with the X5 / Firstly sorted all the rattles and squeaks with a tin off spray and some insulation tape on the tailgate. The knocking from the suspension was cured by changing a control arm , wasn't such a big job.
To sum up I am now loving the X5 , I should have one years ago! Not missing the GTR at all:)
