Hello, I’m just looking for some help I’ve done quite a lot of research and seen many people have had the same issues but I can’t see the solutions.
I have a BMW X3 2011 with the USB & aux in the centre arm rest with I-drive system.
I can play music from my Iphone 6s Spotify app via the aux, and my phone will charge using the USB. However with my phone just connected to the USB it doesn’t show up on the multimedia section on I-drive.
The first thing I tried was the Y-cable, so I went the to the BMW dealership and tired the Ycable and this didn’t work for some reason, still no connection? Therefore I tried the Tune2air.
Now I liked this as it did connect to my phone however only showed and played the songs on my phone - not Spotify songs.
I’m wondering what options I have please, the main thing I’m after if the audio controls to work on the steering wheel so far I only have volume control but preferably I’d like to be able to skip tracks, if possible even have the song section option via I-drive?
Thank you all in advance.

Re: I-phone I-drive controls
Bit of a long shot given it’s not a BMW I know much about but here goes....
Is the phone configured to allow the car connection to work? I had a ‘do you trust this computer’ message the first time I connected.
On my MY2011 E71 you don’t need a Y cable, just the USB as the 3.5mm connector is not needed for smart phones, only some music players. Try just a USB connection. I had an option included in build that plays music via the USB ports however I thought that had become standard later in that model year across the board.
Spotify/Internet Radio only got fully supported in later years, but if it’s on the phone it ought to work I would think as the data is handled by that rather than the car. Now it can be done via the ConnectedDrive system.
What options have you got on the car itself? I think the wheel control options only give volume up/down and track up/down.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Yes i have set it on my phone to "trust this computer" i have reset my phone permissions to ensure that it had clicked "trust".
Yes the ConnectedDrive system is on the newer X3 models so on mine i just have I-Drive.
I have tried it with just the USB and it doesn't connect. I have also been to a BMW specialist and they checked on the idrive system that the USB playback is turned on. So I'm able to play MP3 files from a USB through the I-drive however i still have the issue that my I-phone wont connect an seems all my music is on Spotify still no better off?
Yes that what controls i have on the steering wheel, the sound controls work however its the track up/down that i would like to have to i can keep my eyes on the road.
Thank you for the responses so far, its appreciated!
