The VW vans will be too big for me.
So looks like narrowing down to an X5 or 2 Series. Just wondering if I should go for diesel or petrol

The transporter /caravelle types fit into normal parking spaces and no bigger than, say, a Kia Sorento or a Q7 - in fact, narrower and easier access as the side door slides open van style, and easier to park than those two bloated boogers. I was pleasantly surprised when we got ours that it handled so well and was just like a car to drive or park. I think perceptions of a “van” make us think they are much bigger. But unless you go for a pricey Executive model, the X5 is by far the most luxurious and best finished of the lot. Its always going to be a compromise somewhere......
