Literally just purchased a 2008 30D M Sport
Presuming it was 4x4 with the 40/60 split but just tried to leave my house with the last bit of snow and just the rear wheels spin, front defiantly didn’t.
Also noticed the dtc button doesn’t do anything.
Any ideas guys ?

Re: 2008 only rear wheel drive ?
What happens if you hold the DTC button? You should see things change on the iDrive or lights go on/off? A short press should activate ‘Snow mode’ and a long press turns the system on or off. I have a later version which may be subtly different.
XDrive are not permanent 60:40 but variable drive and can go between almost all rear and almost all front. It should detect the rear wheels slipping and shift power & traction progressively to the other axle.
Only the first generation E53 up to 2002 were 60:40 drive. From 2003 the X5 went to xDrive.

Nothing happens if I press it, held it pressed in, nothing, no lights etc.
