Swapping my 40d with a 40e

I think that most non PHEV hybrids have an electric range of about 1 mile;most of my trips are under 15 miles,often with charging at both ends, so it makes perfect sense  for my type of use;it is less useful on longer journeys as  the ICE is dragging batteries around,although the electric motor does assist at higher speeds & with acceleration,as well as in  stop/start traffic.The ICE will also charge the batteries when  braking and coasting.

As X5Sport said the only reason why we have PHEV's is because of the BIK.  It actually works out cheaper for the company to lease vehicles than it is for us to pay ourselves the dividend and be taxed on it.  Currently we have Merc C350e estates which if it was my own money i would buy,  boot space is mostly useless because of the battery's and you can really feel the weight on country roads.  Mine only gets plugged in at work too and compared to my 320d the fuel economy is rubbish but hey i pay the government a lot less for the benefit of having a car 

Oh and no VED or congestion charge

Was the congestion charge not being changed and that only 100% electric cars were exempt?

VED is also changing so that only pure electric is exempt - though as they use the roads and many weigh the same as a standard polluting car, they should still pay.

15 miles is somewhat surprising. I guess reading about the Nissan Leaf's some of the chaps took out on here I was thinking it would more like the 80/90 mile range and then the 2.0 petrol engine would kick in.

Once the 15 miles have been exhausted does the electric element play any further part in journey if you are travelling further? Is there any self gen for additional 'electric' mileage?

I guess the VED change is also for cars registered from April 2017 and cars registered before that will still benefit from a nil rate?

After 15 miles (  & at all times)the electric motor is still charged by the ICE/regeneration on braking & coasting so will function and/ or help at higher speeds;when I renewed my tax this year on a 3/16 registered car it was still nil  .The 15 miles is the electric only range which varies on driving style.
