If you had described rattling sound I suspect somebody would have suggested exploring possible timing chain or tensioner issues. Sorry but I missed the video link post.
I also have not heard of this on other similar engined cars yet.
Perhaps someone ran it with wrong oil top up or at low level.
Timing chain, guides ancillaries & labour wont be cheap if job to be done properly. Ideally I would want to entrust the work to someone who has done the same job before on that engine. You may struggle to find someone so experienced & due to the rarity of the failure.
Sorry to learn of this.......tensioner failure caused me to reluctantly part with my V8 E53.

Interesting, as the sound wasn't the classic timing chain rattle. What a pita, engine out job. No idea what the job time is for engine out and back, hope you've got a good indy to keep the price down. I shudder to think what a stealer would charge !

Re: "repetitive rustling sound" - turned out to be a failing timing chain
Got a quote - £2500k including labour and parts. They are local independent BMW and Mini specialist, not a dealer. They've done some work for me in the past - couple of oil changes and prop-shaft replacement.
Also they seem to be doing complicated jobs with engine out on a regular basis, so in terms of trust I would trust them more than my dealer's garage.
I wonder what sort of warranty should I expect for such repair if any at all and what other major problems to expect in future .... ?

Well here is another video link with the bonnet up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYqJ_j585AU
What i can't understand and they could not explain is why sound goes away when engine warms up. Obviously the only way now is to take the engine out and have a look but I believe they mentioned that if it turns out this is not a timing chain - they won't charge
