Hi All. Just joined the club with a 2010 (lci) X5. It’s a bit of a poverty spec as doesn’t have dynamic pack or any sexy bits on it. It does have nav, xenons and pan roof tho which is lovely. Heated seats would have been nice tho.

It currently has the 18” alloys on it with new budget tyres. I don’t do budget tyres though so will be replacing all four. My question is- can I put 19’s or 20’s on this or does it have to have the wider arches?

Also if the arches are just stick on, can I add these?

Finally, can I add the running boards?

Have a look at Realoem (BMW Parts database) for retrofit kit.  Running Boards and wheel arch kits should be listed.  19” won’t need anything doing but 20” might depending upon whether OEM and what version.

With 20” wheels keep an eye on the rear doors as they suffer from stone damage!  BMW fitted a clear film to affected panels.

19” staggered wheels were standard and you can go up to 22” should you wish to.  Tyre sets will be around £900 and up depending upon brand.  Avoid budget brands for the reason below.....

Tyres on any ‘staggered’ set up should be ‘*’ marked in order to avoid transmission wind up issues caused by the different rolling diameters - ‘*’ are matched hence being OK.  This is not so important on square set ups with all 4 wheels & tyres being identical.

If you have an SE version without the arch extensions I think as X5Sport says you can probably get them as you wil definitely need them for the 20" and are 315 on the back and probably for the 19" as the tyres are 285 on 19".

The arches are held in withbmw clips which are use once type so worth buying new ones as my friend had a chaps car in at his bodyshop and it turned out he'd used the old ones and lost the new arch he had put on.

Thanks chaps. Looks like it is definitely possible, although the insurance company want an extra £300/year for arches, wheels and running boards. Probably should have checked that before I bought! I may have to shelve the idea as I could have bought one with the kit on for the additional costs! Oops

That’s a bit steep if you are using factory parts!  They aren’t usually concerned with use of OEM.

Hi slipperyshoe, I have a set of genuine BMW e70 Winter Wheels and tyres, they are 255/19 so will be a direct fit.
They are Goodyear Ultragrip RFT star marked with about 6.5mm tread, they are in excellent condition with no punctures and no kerbin. They cost me from BMW over £2,500, I would sell these for £950. They are in Stoke on Trent, if you are interested, let me know.
