I need a measurement.

Post by weirdfish » Sun Oct 29, 2017 3:52 pm

Bit of a strange one, but Could someone please let me know the distance between the inside of the tailgate and the back of the front seats, ( obviously this will depend on how you have the seat adj ), but I'm 6'2" if that helps.
I need to fit a piece of equipment into any car I get, and seeing as I'm looking to get back into X5 ownership I thought it might be wise to check.

I guess it also depends on what you are trying to fit in and also whether you have a passenger or not as you could move the passenger seat as far forward as possible. But that depends on the width of the equipment. you could also lie the passenger seat flat?

Go on then, what humungous piece of kit do you have to take everywhere with you ....... ?

I knew someone would have to ask, lol.
Basically it's a piece of euipment my better half uses to display her clothes etc at sales etc and I'm the fortunate one that gets to cart the equipment/stock around.
So there's always 2 of us in the car so I can't move the passenger seat too far forward.
I can just hear the answers coming along, so I'll try and answer them up front, I drive because she would get lost, if she got lost I would get a phone call, so it's easier just to drive in the first place, I don't want to get another vehicle just to do these trips as it means extra insurance/tax etc etc.
Hopefully that has covered it, but I doubt it somehow, lol.

So depending on the width of it, she could sit behind you and passenger seat could lay flat and said equipment could run the length of the inside of the car. Or does SWMBO only ever sit in the front ....?

Certainly not, swmbo loves to sit in the back and give the regal wave, lol.
Seriously though, with the amount of stuff that gets thrown into the car it's not possible to do what you've suggested.
Anyway I've just checked and it will fit with a bit of luck, ( I suppose I could always cut a bit of the end if not ), lol.

Hi I had 2 roof boxes on the roof of the X5 when we went to france , they add a lot of space which can be easily taken off when not in use !

Have you considered the practicality (not considering the cost!) of a general purpose trailer? I have one of these:
https://www.phoenixtrailer.co.uk/produc ... -trailers/. It came with a fully waterproof cover and has been ideal for 101 jobs since I bought it (initially to transport a motorcycle).

Just a thought.

I think I'm ok for size now, but a trailer might be an idea for the future.
Now to find a decent 4.6.
