BMW X5 E53 2005 4.4 DME Combustion error - rough idling

Post by octet » Wed Oct 18, 2017 1:29 pm

Hi guys,

Been having problems with the X5 lately. It's running rough from the start and EML comes on flashing. iDiag shows "DME: Combustion" error, with codes: 29CC, 29CE, 29CD, 29DO, 29CF, 29D3 29D4, 29D2, 29D1.

What I've done so far:

1. Replace the breather hoses with these:

2. Replace the rubber thin vacuum hose that goes into the intake pipe as the old one was brittle, with this:

3. Replace all coil packs with these:

4. Checked the PCV orange valves, they were replaced 1-2 years ago, they are as new, no oil in there.

I've checked the spark plugs, they seem OK, no oil on them.

These did not help, I'm thinking new cats in case they are broken inside and clogging the exhaust system? Where is the best place to get some new high flow or normal cats please?

Any other suggestions, what else could be?

Many thanks!

Valvetronic? Unplug airflow meter plug and see if still does it.

I'll try in the morning and update you here, thanks!

Anyone has any suggestions about cats or HFC, where can I get these online?

Watched a YouTube last night, throttle body gasket could be at fault? The dude sprayed brake cleaner onto all vacuum hoses. When he sprayed the throttle body gasket, change of engine note which demonstrated this is where the fault lies?

So today I've deleted all the errors and started the car again, reading all the errors in ISTA+

Here's a video with the error and the engine strangely sounding very bad on the driver side alone, like there's no oil. Oil level is fine.

That sounds like one of the cam shafts or lifters are flapping about. Is it miss firing or just running rough?

I had a misfire and rough idle last week which brought on the the cel and went into engine failsafe mode and dsc lights, used inpa got various error codes including bank 1 too lean, ran a live test on 02 sensors and the tolerances were way to low so changed 02 sensors all good now.
