X5 heating fan stays at low speed and drivers door central locking fails

Post by ChrisM1968 » Sun Oct 15, 2017 8:45 am

Hi
I have recently purchased a X5 d sport 2003
The drivers door does not operate with central locking?
Also the heating fan stays at a low speed?
If anyone could help I would be most grateful
Many thanks

Fan issue is likely to be caused by the Final Stage Resistor (FSR) aka ‘Hedgehog’.  Simple diy and not expensive.  Have a search for it on the Forum  :)

And :hi: to the Club  :D

Do the other doors open with central locking? It's just the drivers door that doesn't work?

The GM3 module in the glove compartment, can fail with age leading to problems opening all the doors...

Tailgate usually still works.

With the drivers door does it lock by key, anyway first thing take the switch module out of the door and unplug the connection with the more heavy duty wires, spray some contact cleaner on and plug in/out a few times. Always worth a try, it's free.

Welcome. Can you elaborate on what you mean but the fan stays at low speed. Do you mean the fan that is activated within the car for internal temp. or did you mean the aux fan (which is a cooling fan not a heating fan next to the radiator) stays on when the car is at low speed. Mine (the internal fan)  is always on but at the minimum (as I always have the air con on which you should do anyway to stop the seals drying out), but you should be able to switch it off if you so desire (although i don't see why). Sometimes the buttons stick and it can be done to that. Or the FSR/hedgehog as already mentioned.

ChrisM1968 you asked, on your first post, two questions, which 4 people went to the bother of giving you pointers as to where the problem might lay. You could at least acknowledge. If only to tell us we're all wrong.
