injectors might need cleaning?
Re: injectors might need cleaning?
Don't forget you need the temperature to be around 40c.

Re: injectors might need cleaning?
And the car has to level. Not just driver side on kerb..
Re: injectors might need cleaning?
Did you get to the bottom of your issue? I have what appears to be a mis-fire at higher power 3500-4000 rpm where the car stops accelerating seems like it's choking but won't give anymore revs.
Reading this post made me wonder if its torque converter. New car to me 2001 X5 4.4i lots of problems, timing chain guide rails, new Vanos bank 1-4. etc etc.. no idea if gearbox oil has ever been changed.
If I go into manual mode in the gearbox can I sorta bypass the torque converter?
Only been able to do 50 or so miles in my machine total, steep learning curve!!

MiketheMo the best advice if your new to E53 X5 motoring is to invest in a code reader, it'll pay for itself in 6 months

Fuel filter, starving it of fuel at high demand?
Blocked Cat ?, not letting the exhaust gasses out fast enough, so choking the engine, had it on My 8 series with the M62 engine . This will show up as misfire on all the cylinders on the same bank.

Re: injectors might need cleaning?
well that's interesting, I wonder could that be why there is a smell of exhaust coming into the car when it chokes...
and I intend on getting a reader. is the 1.4.0 the one to go for? Got 2 e46's as well...
I suspect the fuel filter was changed with all the work that's been done..

Smoke coming into cabin is usually a cracked manifold (known issue). IF replacing go for the cast iron ones on eBay - will last much longer than OEM spec).
DO NOT ASSUME the fuel filter was changed - in fact they are rarely changed. I always ask for he old one back just for the piece of mind that they did actually change it. it's been posted on here many times that despite the car being serviced by a Stealership etc that the fuel filter had not been done. It's meant to be done every 3rd service as I recall and because it isn't an 'every service' item it doesn't changed. That and the fact that is a PITA to do

That is exactly the same as my 320d and it was the lock up clutches in the torque converter.
I drove down to Birmingham to a place that refurbish them and got 1 fitted cost me £500 and that included fuel and dinner.
I know i have just repeated myself lol should have gone through the full post.
