30d or 35d

Hi all

apls if this topic has been done to death but Im interested in a 3 litre X3 - nearly newish.  My current X3 is a 2.0 d and 10 years old.  It will keep chugging along Im sure but I fancy an upgrade.

Does any one have any real world info on either model?  Im tempted by the 35d as for a nearly new car there doesnt seem to be much difference in price.

For most of my driving I quite like pottleing about. I like torquey engines which Im sure either model has but Id like to decide when I go quickly and when I dont.  The last fastish car I had was an audi S3 and it had a mind of its own, you just had to blink and you were going too fast.  Im hoping the 30/5d's are set up so they dont go away with you but are quick when you need them to be.  I dont want to get a 35d and find its like driving a scalded cat:-)

I did talk to a few dealers about a new X3 with the end of model offers they had but I found it frustrating and not really that clear on how much discount they were offering.  Looking at the dealers sites the new stock cars have mostly been registered now but they are still quite expensive in my view (45k ish) where as a 12-18 month old car with low miles is 30k ish.

It depends on your budget but if you want it a bit quicker I would go for the more powerful car 35d (or 30sd as it was also called), as you can always press or lift off the accelerator as desired.

Although you can get them remapped -see posts by Jason at BW Chiptine as he's mappped a lot of cars on here with good results fro members

Depending on your budget you may have the option of the later facelift LCI 40d with eight speed box seems to be pretty rapid and put a smile of your face.

Also worth reading the buyers guide before purchasing as a good car is great a bad one can be a money pit.

Remember to check all electrics at least twice, pan rooof windows door mirrors etc. Also the some members with earlier diesels have had PDF isssues due to short local stop start running, but it was resolved by cleaning or a replacement.

I wanted to spend about 30k for a 12-18 month car or if BMW are still doing 0% then Ill have a look at that.

Do you know if they are still doing 0%?  I understood they were contuing the deal till all the stock had been sold...

They had 0% APR on new cars until end of sept.
In the used car section there are some cars with a used car rate of 7 to 10%.
If they have any new car deliveries expected of old model worth ringing them and asking for 0 % APR with 0 deposit

I went for the x30d and it's never left me wishing I had more grunt. The 35d is quicker still,but I believe the 30d is the sweet spot in terms of cost,insurance,power and useability.
