Another newbie

Post by Davidoff » Tue Oct 03, 2017 12:03 pm

Hi guys, newbie here. I'm looking into buying an X5 and have joined the forum to do some research first. I have read a few posts referring to the E70 buyers guide, but can't seem to find it? Not very computer literate I'm afraid. Could someone post a link to it for me please!
Thanks in advance
D

Thanks Reusch. If there is 1 thing I'm good at, it's stupid questions. ;)

We don’t get stupid questions.....unless they are the ones not asked but really should have been  :)

Hi

Also try this link

The big difference between the earlier E53 and E70 cars is the earlier cars you can do retro fit mods a lot easier without lots of modules and coding and a lot more cost So if you want heated rear seats or folding mirrors on the car make sure it has them.

One member was quoted by BMW over 2k to retro fit heated rear seats when it was a £400 option originally.

If looking at diesel cars the earlier 2007-08 models had higher tax fuel to emissions so worth checking the reg on dvla website to check. The later cars were lower and had lower road tax.

There was a face lift in called LCI and was in 2010 and revised front bumper layout and 8 speed box instead of the earlier 6 speed. Also you have the option. Of an SE model with unpainted arches and running board and these seem to have a higher spec as standard or the M Sport model with painted arches and no running board. The ride can be hard for some esp with the 20" runflats on. Some members prefer 19" or even 18" but wheels and tyres are fairly easy to get. Remember a lot of items on an X5 were options.

There are a lot of X5's out there and the more you look the more you see and spot so take your time. If buying from BMW an approved used car their warranty is better and they generally keep the best cars but prices reflect this, but to keep up warranty you have to have service with them. Again non franchised dealers give you statutory warranty 3 months and any longer can be at extra cost and private there is no warranty.

Remember to do usual car checks. Then make sure the electrics all work seats windows sunroofs and no errors on dash panel. Also if with a sunroof check footwells with hand for damp as some sunroof drain tubes block or even the scuttle can block and there's can be some water ingress.
