What Oil (with X factor)?
Guys, my 04 3.0i needs an oil change and plan to do myself. EuroCarParts seem to also doing codes for cheap oil and therefore plan to get from them, unless find another deal. Anyway, I know there are different grade of oil and therefore considering I currently have a tapping hydronic lifter value, that clears once the engine is warm, would would the best oil grade to get to hopefully resolve or make less noisy.

5w30 or 0w30 and compliant with LL04 + ACEA C3
OEM typically use Castrol Edge FST synthetic - and you need to use a synthetic.
Some folks are using Magnatec oils on higher mileage engines. Whether it makes any noise difference I can’t say.

How long since the last oil change, from your comments about doing it your self that suggests that this is the first time you have done it. Personally I don't like a garage doing oil changes as the vehicle is driven 20 yards into the garage, oil is still cold and thick and all the impurities you want out are still stuck to the sides of the sump to mix in with your new oil. I like it hot to the point of burning me if I'm not careful when the plug comes out. Maybe a couple of short mileage oil changes will cure the noisy lifter, I've known it happen.

Cheers guys, yep. Normally leave this to the garage, but going to do myself. How long roughly should I leave the engine running before draining the oil, without scolding myself.
Re: What Oil (with X factor)?
I run my car upto theme before I drop the oil.

seen a guy using a device to suck the engine oil out of the car via the dipstick tube oil drained into a glass jar with measurements on the side , time he changed the oil filter ..... job done

A lot of garages use these suction tools. I’m told it is safer for their techies as it limits exposure to contaminated oil and reduces spills onto workshop floors.
I don’t know how good they are at getting the crud out of the sump though? Certainly a clean way of doing it though

Yes clean and handy worked , excellent tool for a DIY'er , oil and filter change in 10 minutes and not have to get under the vehicle

You'll never convince me though that it's better for the engine. Of course the garages love it cos it's quick and easy and most people never even think about the long term life of their engine cos it'll be moved on in a few years. Just don't like garages doing those sort of things have heard of garages with their 50 gallon drums of shell oil filled with cheap shit. A main dealer I believe will fill with the right stuff, but not every garage does. just a cynical opinion.

I use a suction pump and can also get the oil out of the filter housing the will not come out if you drain through the drain plug.
First time I used it I took the drain plug out just to see if any oil was left in and not a drop came out.
