Just some information for all on the warranty renewal latest.

Comprehensive £2309 or £226 monthly
Named component £1895 or £185
Driveline £1407 or £140

Ouch!  I'm paying half that as I have it on a monthly payment, and auto renewing so it does not go up except with Insurance Tax.  My X6 is the same year, less than half the mileage.

I did decide on a £750 excess though, but even then the zero excess premium then was £1,500.

Anyway my decision was made after only a few months of ownership. If I had little or no bother, Id run without any warranty. Here we are 30 months later and it's performed as I expected it to. Exemplary.

I don't tow anything, or indeed ever treat it like a boy racer. I enjoy the sheer pleasure of driving such a luxurious big motor. Thats not to say I dont stretch its legs occasionally, but always in an undemanding way.

Since I took ownership at 54K Ive changed the oil every 6k nand i've never skimped on any service requirements. 

In all my years of ownership, covering most premium marque motors, I've never been unfortunate to lose a major component. I always do my homework, and spend a lot of time researching before purchase. Once again ive not been disappointed. Indeed 3 years on Im just beginning to understand it a little.
Ive spoken to many likeminded owners who have reassured me that with due care and correct maintenance I should expect mileage well into the 100k plus before I run into problems. (Thats several years hence for me)
That's not to say it wont cost me money along the way, but you pay for your pleasure.

My thoughts remain, £200+ a month buys you a lot fixes!

Indeed it would.  I have stuck with mine after having so many issues with my E53, including a gearbox failure at 38,000 miles.  The X6 has some really expensive parts which I couldn't afford to fix so the warranty helps cushion it but yes it is still a hard decision every time.  :-\ ???

Mine was exactly the same as similar age and miles to yours I went with out the warranty as I just can't justify 200+ a month for piece of mind I will just bank some cash just in case !

I was in two minds but decided to take out comprehensive cover just for my peace of mind, which cost me £963 annual with £250 excess mine is a X5 2012 3.0d.

Only took it out in July had to wait 30 days before it kicked in another reason I took warranty out was because of a known issues with propshaft failure without notice, and damaging engine, transfer box and gearbox.

The thought of being on the hook for a major repair bill is a large part of what makes me replace my car every 3 years. That and the fact I have no technical skills.

Years ago I had a company car - vauxhall vectra gsi. It was a dogs breakfast, a very fast version of a very average car. Only a year or so into having it the engine let go in a big way. Turned out to be something at fault that should have been replaced due to known issue. Apprently there had been a programme to replace but my car had been "missed". Car would have been a write off had it not been for the fact that vauxhall paid for the new engine and labour. The company I worked for ran a huge nationwide fleet so there were no issues with vauxhall, but I couldnt help but wonder how I would have got on had I just been a private owner.

For me, a car worth £7000 or more would be enough for me to buy a warranty at £1000 pa. The more the car is worth the more I'd spend on the warranty. I guess it all depends on an individual's appetite for risk - which in itself is heavily influenced by their personal financial circumstances.

Yes id read a lot about the horrendous prop shaft failures and the subsequent damage. Disgraceful that BMW UK wont own up and declare its a failure on their part, subcontracting out inferior speced parts from local California suppliers. Its hard to believe that when they've owned up to the problem in north America, that they can still plead innocence here.
Anyway mine was changed in 2014, and as the cost is minimal compared to the damage costs. Id advise anyone to bite the bullet and get it done.
Yes a warranty is nice peace of mind.

Yes your quite right horror stories abound about all makes and ages of motors dying, and owners being left with a nightmare bill.
Good research and a lifetime knowledge of the industry & mechanics is a must to run older motors. That and a damn good local indi.
Otherwise your absolutely right. buy new, and get the best warranty you can. 
PCP or lease seems to take the gamble out of any purchase nowadays. Petrol heads like myself will be a thing of the past all to soon )

So I took out the comprehensive warranty just after I got the car and it has been so worth it. It is costing just under £200 a month for my 2007 4.8i.

So far in the last 6 months they have paid up for a new bi Xeon, 2 rear air springs a transfer box and front diff So that is worth a few years warranty payments.

It is not cheap but so for it has been hassle free which is a first for me when it comes to warranties

Without a doubt you have certainly had your monies worth from your warranty.
Air bags, front diff and a transfer box that's unbelievable.

In the 3 years of AUC warranty i don't think i've racked up £200 :-[

Even at twice the price, your warranty would have been a bargain )
