Can automatic locking be activated?

Is there a way of activating automatic locking when you drive off without having to pay someone?

If this is a daft question then just ignore however if there are ways of setting incar/key fob functions etc then please share....

I'm sure you can do it from the on board computer, I've been able to do it on the last few BMWs I've had anyway, someone will have the exact method here I'm sure

Sadly, on the e53 you will require a dealer to code your car for auto locking to activate on drive off. Some indi's will have said equipment to do so and won't cost the earth to do so. The only issue on the e53 with this function is that the car won't open the the locks when you stop so you will have to push the C/L button on the dash or pull the door leaver twice. This feature was std on later facelift e53's

This is true, but only on newer BMW's eqipped with iDrive systems

Edit: While hanging out the washing I was thinking about what you said Jalf and I think you may be right re: the OBC function but it is still only on the newer models. i.e. e9X 3er, e8X 1er but not the e53. Sure I did this on Mrs Chompers 1er. Sorry for the confusion.

BMW Scanner will do it. You can even set the speed after which the doors lock:

I had mine activated by Jason at BWChiptune .
I think it costs £50-60 and takes about 10-15 mins , and if I remember he used an AutoLogic programme .
Once you get used to pressing the auto lock/unlock button inside it's fine .

Have to say I thought the same think I'd rather save the money and just push the button on the dash if 'auto lock' wasn't on my cars, couple this with the fact they don't 'auto unlock' on an e53. Not worth the money IMO

This can be activated when you take the keys out of the ignition if you have an intravee and the right sofware ..........don't ask me how though!!!

For about £75 or £25 hire you can do this and more yourself with a scanner.

Not knocking Jason, he has a living to make and a liability if it goes tits up.

there is peter at autologic, telford, who charges something like £25-30. I had it done on my M. he was very good. easy to deal

Here's some, Park heater, TV on the go, Key controls, Convenient open/close, Alarm beep and flash arm/disarm, Bulb check (for LEDs), Adjust park sensors, Error code resets, disable and diagnostics.

Some of which you may already have active.
