X6 (F16 2016) tailgate problem

Post by c240amg » Fri Sep 08, 2017 9:14 am

Hi all,

Went to open the boot today, it unlocks, but the motor doesn't lift up the tailgate. Manually I can lift it open it.

It doesn't close when pressing the button on the tail gate, but I can close it manually and it auto locks.

Any ideas?
I don't particularly want to take this back to the dealer for a week for them to fix :/
-- Update --

Have charged the battery for about 30 mins (via a ctek mx charger) and the boot now opens partially and the tailgate gets lifted about half way.

Seems the battery needs to be charged more for the tailgate to lift.

Sounds like the battery is low.
I would get it tested also the charging system.

I've left it on charge for a couple of hours, and it's unlocking but intermittently lifting the tailgate.... looks like i'll have to take it to the dealership.

I've under a year old, so I am guessing it'll be covered by a warranty of sorts?

Once the battery is fully charged, if it still does it then it should be a warranty job.  Being a screwjack they need a good power supply.

Mine had the same issue some 6 months into ownership, under warranty so dealership had it in and found that water had been seeping into the rear bumper  from the fuel filler area instead of draining away and consequently  caused electrical issues which prevented the tailgate from opening or closing using the key fob.  No problems since they rectified it in 2015.
