LED Headlights.. Wow!

Post by bascule » Thu Aug 24, 2017 3:22 pm

I already had HIDs for the dipped beam lights, which were excellent - very strong lights, nice white colour, great coverage.

But - when going to main beam, the standard bulbs I had didn't really add anything, as the dipped were so good.

Picked up a set of these after a recommendation in a facebook group, and they arrived today - £33 delivered from Amazon, nicely made, took about 2 mins to replace.  They have integrated cooling fans and a little inverter for the power, build quality looks fine.

They're canbus compliant, and I have no errors showing.  What's not clear from the pictures is that there are LEDs both sides.

Turned them on, and well, judge for yourself as these are 1pm daylight pictures!

You can see the HIDs I already had compared to the standard main beam.

I fitted some to mine a few months ago.
Never seen anything like the brightness o them.
Not been out in total darkness but at dusk they really lit the road up.
I have a set for the dip beam but not got round to fitting them only had them 2 months lol.

Especially if you fancy doing in dark comparison shots of view on the road?  :alkashi:

Daft question I know... Which ones fit the main beam? I have HIDS and sometimes they don't always fire properly, normally have to have the engine running for a few secs before turning the lights on. Think the dipped beams were H7 but not 100% on that either!!

HB3 fitment.
This is what i fitted just to try really to see what the light was like.
I was very surprised at the light output from them and have left them fitted.

We're they easy to fit? As getting the HIDS wired in properly I had to drill a hole into the back of the headlight unit, which I don't really fancy doing again.

Anyone got the for their normal dipped beam yet, I see these are 60w so will be a tad too bright.

Just like changing a normal bulb.
They just twist into the socket and plug in.

The OP 's X5 looks like a pre facelift , ( pre 2004 ) if yours is a facelift, they have different bulbs H7 I think . Check on HIDS Direct website and put your reg in the box, that will give you the correct info.
Or someone on here may be along shortly to give you a definite answer

Mine were 9005 ones for the main beam..

Just spent two weeks in Devon and Cornwall, and am really pleased with the night performance of these!

Will get another set for the fogs.

If the lights are pre 08  2002, they will more than likely split and then you could fit led halo rings, get rid of the orange indicator plastic and fit chrome indicator bulbs.
Whilst all stripped apart also spray the black inner plastic shell silver as well.
The black bonnet grilles by the wipers (where the washers are) also come out easily and they can also be colour coded silver as well.

I have done all these mods
