Hi and welcome to the forum. I've got anE83 3.0d X3 at the moment which I use for towing our caravan.
I've had an E53 Facelift E53 a few years ago which I never towed with.
The X3 tows our 5 berth caravan with ease as the 500 Nm of torque is well suited to towing.
Im Sure you will be inpressed once you get the towbar fitted.
Check out the PF Jones site for towbar, I've got the Westfalia detachable towbar with dedicated electrics which is OEM for BMW.
The X5 should feel well stable when towing as it's got a greater towing capacity than the X3 , due to being heavier than the X3
2011 Kia Sorento KX3  2.2D 60 Plate Auto in black ( mine )
BMW E83 X3.  3.0d M Sport, 2008 in black ( now gone )
BMW E93 330i Convertible  Msport  2007.  ( Now sold )
VW Golf 2.0 TDI 140 GT 2010 ( now sold )
Now Sold 55 plate, X5, 3.0 D Sport. Silv

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Congrats on your new X5.

If there are no tow bars for sale try Pf jones as they do the kits for E53 with all the necessary wiring, and from what others have said it is fairly straight forward.
