Quite a lot of forums allow this. Should be possible via, e.g.

Embed YouTube Videos in posts?

Re: Embed YouTube Videos in posts?
Just get the link from YouTube and paste it into your post. Not sure about 'embedding' as that depends upon the site owners settings. Photos can't be uploaded directly, only linked to, although Photobucket have now messed that up via Tinypic.

Here's an example of what I had in mind:

Re: Embed YouTube Videos in posts?
We can't load photos directly and embedding may be under the same scope? It's all about storage and data flow charges. This is a free forum and as far as I know Ad free too (I use ad blockers anyway). We have had ads on here but some 'inappropriate' ones appeared so I guess it got taken off again?
What happened when you tried?
There are ways of doing things by using the 'earth' symbol in new/amended posts - as long as you are happy in using HTML code

Re: Embed YouTube Videos in posts?
I've tried a variety of approaches on the embedding question and none worked, almost certainly for security reasons.
The Earth [ url ] facility simply allows a hyperlink to have a different (usually shorter and descriptive) title. AFAICS, there are three ways to support YT video embedding on SMF:
There is no impact on data storage or data flow costs, as what is passed to the user's browser is the YT destination link, not the video content, and the browser fetches the video directly from YT.
As all posts have a "Report to moderator" link, I'd say this is a relatively low-risk enhancement. When I ran a Drupal-based forum, it was a really popular facility.
