Runningboards

Autosol, wonder wheels, acetone, still can't bring them anywhere near the condition as the rings that are left under the rubber naps. Any suggestions? And any suggestions on a sealant once the boards are finished?

No experience here, but could you sand them to fresh material and then clearcoat (uv resistant, none yellowing of course)?

Polish and your wife's  toothbrush with an abundance of patience
I've read some dismantle the running board and remove all the grommets to make it easier, once cleaned a long lasting coat of collinite

Whilst I've also read the strip down clean and paint

There was a thread recently and I think someone said they used "wonder wheels" from Halfords to clean the alloy, and I can't remember what the sealer was but it was about £8 for 15ml - do a search and see it you can find the thread, it is best to plerk out the bungs and either clean them or replace them - they're cheap enough so I hear even though there's about 90 of them on each side, still on my to do list

I've used wonder wheels, autosol and acetone. They are much better but under the naps(black rubber studs) I'm left with rings of very good condition aluminium where the rubber has protected it over the years. Ideally I want to bring the boards up to that level then seal them.

I tried adding pictures on the first post but doesn't seem to work.

Fine wire wool will do the trick with a bit of metal polish or even brillo pad and polish after.

I did a how to sometime back (including sealant to use). Funnily enough it is in the how to section.
There is nothing that you wont get off the running boards with time effort patience and a large tub of elbow grease. Worst case scenario then use fine grade wet and dry, applied wet
