wheel max load?

Post by wilsbrough » Thu Aug 24, 2017 10:08 am

Hi, just need a bit of confirmation here. Looking at a set of alloys which have a max load of 1050kg. Is that per corner, or the total max weight the car can be to have these wheels on? As the x3 is around 1800/1900kg do I devide that number by four to get the max load, or do I need to find wheels that have a max load of 1800? You get the idea.

Thanks in advance.
Andy

Per wheel load and that needs to take shock loading (such as a speed hump or pothole into account too).  Divide by four but the nose is heavier than the tail.  I doubt you will hit 4T all round.

There were issues a few years back with look-a-like alloys cracking though it seems rarer these days.  The worst ones were those with very thin spokes and tyre rims.

Out of interest, would you or anyone on here know if a wheel with max load of 654kg would be ok for a 3.0 petrol x3, or do people think its a little too low a load rating?

Thx
