Fitting 50i Exhaust tips

Post by X5Sport » Tue Feb 08, 2011 9:27 pm

Having seen pictures of snipez999's White 40d with the 50i tips fitted, I made contact with my local Dealer. Sales and Parts are adamant that it can't be one.

So the question is, how did it get done as it looks as if I've hit a problem with it. Parts say neither the tips nor rear box fit, but we know the box doesn't need doing.

What parts were used? If I can go back to them and say well here are the parts used and this is the job done maybe I'm get somwhere. The kit is available for all versions except the 40d, but we've seen the pictures.....

I wanted this from day one with my car when again somebody on here did it.

My dealer said it couldn't be done

2 1/2 years later my dealer fitted them !

Try another dealer or even an independent that will be willing to look outside of the box !

It can't be that difficult can it?

Pictures of that nice man's white one taken underneath so the guys can be shown would probably result in a "Oh that's what you mean!! Yeah we can do that no prob. All you need is......."

Rather than than the flat "no, Can't be done" that I'm currently getting :x

There's nothing I enjoy more than fumbling round under a car in my jim jams and bare feet when it's pishing down outside LMAO.
Pics duly added: http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c60/snipez999/

If there's an issue, just buy it from the dealer I used, who supplied the correct parts (different from Realoem pictures) and they will post it to you (UK Mainland) for free as well as discount the price. You will need to get the bodywork blanks sprayed up somewhere but this is a simple/cheap job. My local dealer quoted 149 GBP for fitting so it's only an hour of their time. It *can be done and is being done* so let them bullshit you not. Perhaps their microfiche is out of date so they only show the 'old' kit (like Realoem do) which required cutting and shutting of the mounting brackets as well. I used Cotswold BMW I have already given their details elsewhere but it's Rich on 01432 375563
Price was £407.00 inc Vat this is for the kit and the primed trims, and free postage. It will take 3-5 working days to get as they will come from germany.
This was a reasonable discount too so worth thinking about.

You star :D

I'll give Rich a call tomorrow and get this sorted. I might even get 'finance control's' permission to buy it. They do look so much better. Shame I didn't know ealier as I've just had to have the rear bumper re-sprayed after that RTC in Sainsbury's on Xmas Eve. Was I cross? Not bl@@dy half I was. Never mind, tis done now.

I spose I better join the 'other' site mentioned too.

Hope your Jim Jam's dry soon too :? :D

I thought these exhausts were stainless steel too from front to back so that discolouration is a surprise.

Ta,
BMW MRP for the 'Blende' is £462.50 plus fitting. Not got a price on the trims. Need to get 'Finance Control' approval for this plus the iPhone4 adapter and then I'll call Rich. Have also joined the 'Land'.

I ended up paying 301.40 plus VAT for the Blende tips and 37.77 plus VAT for the trims = 407 quid all in.
Check the 'Land' posts under the Hereford Cotswold BMW bit towards the top and you will see my forum trail.

It's on hold for now whilst the 'issue' around getting the 6NF option that should (and would) have been fitted if the salesman had known what he was about. I won't do anything in case the car had to be 'returned' and a replacement ordered. If the modules & harness do get fitted then we're back on plan for exhaust tips later in the year. Got a holiday to pay for first :(

OK possibly back on track as the 6NF option cannot be solved. I've got the fitting instructions from BMW (will try to get them posted up) and as long as you've got the right tools (which I haven't) etc it's pretty straightforward to do and takes 90mins max.

I take it these rear trims (or finishers as BMW call them) will actually need painting to match the car? I'm going to have a word with the local bodyshop to see what they'll quote for fitting including the painting, cutting, welding (there is some on the post 03/2010 build diesel only) and refitting. The kit price has risen somewhat, as now even with a 10% discount it's £470 for all the parts.
