What Make of Tyres 66plate or 60 plate

Hi what tyre should come with the x5 66plate or 60 plate been looking on mike brewer site and some of the cars on there have different make tyres and only have 10,000 miles or less so should be the tyres that come with the car

Change of tyres on a given car can be for a number of reasons, sidewall damage from potholes, kerbing etc would write a tyre off easily, Forecourt cars predominantly get the cheapest ditch finders, maximum tread with minimum cost!
As the X5 has the xdrive system, it's important the tyres fitted are star rated & ideally the same brand and tread pattern across the axle, effectively, this means the rolling circumference is matched front to back and side to side, thus preventing diff wind up that trashes the transmissions.
Manufacturer is not that important as long as the tyres are matched!
Bridgestone & Dunlop were OEM supplier form new, Continental & Pirreli also do star rated tyres, as does Michelin though the later is hard to find in correct load & Speed index. (I just replaced tyres hence the thoughts roll off the tongue easily)
Longlife & Jigyu etc also make tyres, though should be avoided
Unfortuantately this effects all xdrive models, very sensitive to tyres, some have gotten away with, others less fortunate, why take take chance ...........
Tyre cost difference from cheap to approved use is huge!
To correct a buying mistake with the wrong tyres is expensive, circa £1000 per set, one of those age old statements of those that know, Know, I'd be using it for discount leverage if the car is right!

My '66 plate 50d came with Pirelli PZeros which I just replaced for Dunlop GT Sport Maxx.

Pirellis were great when new but got noisy with age (lasted 18k) - they also provide almost no rim protection.

Dunlops are quieter but front end not quite so positive - much better rim protection.

Just thought that I would comment on my previous car that was a 2014 F25 X3 3.5D which came OE on 19" Pirelli's. I changed them in January this year at 26,000 miles for Michelins. The car was changed completely, with the handling much more precise with virtually no tram lining, which I appreciate is often the case with new rubber. However it was the transformation of the road noise and ride comfort that was the real eye opener for me. I would not have believed that a change of tyres could make such a difference to a car. I have been around the tyre trade and cars most of my adult life, but my wife has no such experience, just drove the car (when I let her  ) ), but even she immediately commented on the lack of crashing when hitting uneven road surfaces and smaller pot holes.
We replace the car in May with a 2015 F15 X5 with 13,000 miles on the clock fitted with 20" OE Pirelli's. To date it has covered nearly 19,000 miles and has 4-5mm RTD. Needless to say I will be replacing with Michelins if they are available when the time comes.

Good luck finding decent Michelins in the 20" size though - they seem to only offer the 4x4 tyre which is shockingly bad.

I wanted to switch to Michelin non-RFT as I have with my other BMWs - you are so right, this transforms the car completely.

Hi there MarkG_M50d thanks for your comments, I fear that you are right regarding RF Michelins. Just checked on Black Circles and no Michelin 20" RFT listed  :-[. Fortunately replacements not yet required  so hope that they introduce some before needed, if not I will probably go for a set of Bridgestone RFT's  unless anybody has any adverse experience or comments. Anyway as said I am under no pressure yet  ). (just tempted fate  )

My 335 came with Bridgestones and I hated them for the hard ride so didn't want to risk them on the X5 (which are supposed to be much better).

Apparently Michelin has launched the Pilot Sport 4 in the 20" size but I have yet to find them on sale anywhere. With a bit of luck they may appear before you need them.
