Wanted: E53 X5

Post by tsinc » Sun Jul 30, 2017 5:46 pm

Looking for an E53 X5 with under 75k miles. Full service history and ideally 4.4L v8.

I much prefer to buy a car via forums/owners club rather than the tat on eBay etc

Thanks :)

So it's 200 miles away, talk to the bloke, he may make a meet halfway, although I would prefer to see it at the house.
It may well be worth travelling to see it, I would go to view if I was interested.

200 miles is nothing for the right car. I bought my last X5 near Aberdeen and I live in Kent. Flew up and drove back. That's a hell of a first drive and by the end of it I certainly knew many of the cars foibles.

Everyone's different then I suppose but I'm not willing to take a 400 mile round trip to buy a £5k car as previous experiences have mainly led to travelling for a "pristine" car for it to end up looking battered in real life.

If it was a higher end car with less of them available then I would be more inclined.

I did a deal with the guy i got my car from as i didn't fancy a 360 mile round trip.
We agreed on a price for the car and a delivery price but if i didn't like the car he still got the delivery price that we had agreed to.
I bought the car and took him to the train station so fuel and ticket and about £70 in his pocket for his trouble.

A car nearby has popped up but a quick MOT history check shows its mileage has always been recorded in KM, any reason for that? From the photo of the dash it looks like the speedo is in MPH.

I'm 20mins away. If you're serious about the car I can try and view it on the weekend.

You may not realise it yet but you are looking for a fairly rare vehicle. Low mileage e53's, that have been looked after well are pretty thin on the ground so I believe you'll need to travel if something comes up. You will have to kiss a few frogs before you find your princess.

As with any second hand car, but it would seem especially with these beasts, expect to be lied to by most owners/dealers, ( this place is the exception, but you still need to check ), the only way to know if the vehicle is any good is to go have a look yourself, check all the paperwork, hpi it, inspect it, ( or get it inspected ), drive it, ( and not just around the block ), don't accept that you can't drive it yourself, ( just make sure your insurance covers you if buying privately ).
There's a lot you can do without leaving the comfort of your favourite armchair, prepare a list of questions to ask the seller, ( have a look at the buying guides on here ), then check mot history, ( or maybe do this before asking questions ).
If you wait until one pops up on your doorstep you might be waiting a long long time.
Good luck with your search though.
