It's a little more involved replacing the headunit on a factory fitted satnav car. There is a cable you need to purchase that runs from the rear of the aftermarket headunit to the Boot.
There is a current thread running at the moment where the poster says he needs the cable for his replacement unit, at a cost of £60.

I ran a cable from my boot area recently in my X3 whilst fitting my towbar electrics that connected to a module behind the dash, it wasn't a difficult job really easy diy able.
I asked was it a factory nav car, as when I fitted a Dynavin to my E53 all the wiring was there in the dash as mine was a non nav car so didn't have to run the cables to the boot.
But saying that I had to cut out the plastic shelf that held in the CD player and the MID unit, so there was no going back.
