Diamond cut alloys - advice please!

Post by Shez1878 » Fri Jul 21, 2017 12:18 pm

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all well. Currently in process of selling my RR Sport so I can go back to an X5.

The alloys on my Sport are diamond cut however need a refurb. I was under the impression this would be hugely expensive in comparison to 'normal' alloys.

So was surprised to be told although the alloys are diamond cut, they can be refurbed as normal alloys.

Is this true? I realise I will lose the rather nice diamond effect but it saves me £400 [emoji33]

Yes that is correct.
I have a set of [originally diamond cut] wheels on my X5 that are now just powder coated silver. No more corrosion issues....
Only difference is on the X5,s the wheels are normally powder coated in a dark silver first then diamond cut, thus they are a 2 tone effect. I suspect the RR wheels might be the same..
My wheels are now one colour....

Experience from others with DC wheels is that they will need doing again.....and again unless you can use a waterproof (and probably non-compliant with EU legislation) old school lacquer.  Modern lacquers will not keep the finish once the salting season starts again.

Powder coating may be your only sensible - if less desirable - option  :(
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
