Transfer case issue ???

Post by Buster » Mon Feb 07, 2011 7:31 pm

Anyone come across this before, drive the X5 and the 4x4 and ABS lights come on.

Mate pluged in his code reader and fault code 5F3A Transfer case internal appeared.

Does anyone know what the fix is? The X5 is a 2005, 3.0d

Thanks

After reading up for most of the night it looks like it could be a mutitude of things from simply disconnecting the battery to the transfer box itself so I'm going to book it into the indy and let them deal with it.

I've have no noises coming from the transfer box and the oil level has been checked, the car has only done 38,000miles so hopefully its not the transfer box

Fault code 5F3A ???

Post by Buster » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:37 am

What wouldn't rule out the box itself?

Don't know if it's best to book it into the dealers or the indy.

Does anyone know if there is a test procedure for checking the 4x4 and DSC system?

Just to update - Had the X into the indy this morning and they have came back with a few fault codes that point to the problem being the control unit for DSC and Xdrive system, therefore they do not have the software to code the new control unit to the car and has to go to the main dealer.

Car is in the dealers now and will be looked at tomorrow.

Aggrrhh.......just had the dreaded call from the dealers. It's the transfer case that has gone, internal electrical fault and the new transfer case + fitting + coding is the best part of £3000 ahhhhhhh $hit
