Sounds good to me. I paid my local Dealer £500 for a brand spankers set of staggered 258's inc tyres from another X6 which the owner had fitted ACS wheels to and didn't want the OEMs.

I'm not sure I should point this out but I looked at them and decided against them as the tyres had little life left and were descibed as winter tyres whereas they were the standard michelin all seasons you get on your spare. That said, even factoring in replacing the tyres it's not a bad price. They were also too far away for me to collect so it didn't add up for me.

As for price paid - you chose to bid that much so I assume you are happy with your decision choice & thats what counts. The ability forsemi-local inspection & collection being another benefit for you no doubt.

On a more postitive note I prior read a forum review from an XC90 owner running MXV4's in light snow & saying they were okay. Some advocate to keep tread depth no lower than 4mm for deicate snow tyre efficency. Reviews seem to claim massive mileages on these.........MXV4's do cause me confusion as I have seen refrences to MXV4 Pilots, Latitudes as well as more commonly Primacy & thats without me knowing how many variations or changes there may or may not have been to each.

I was tempted to bid but chose not to once they went over £100 & for exactly the same reasons cited by Dan1502. I did not see this ebay item in person.

Fwiw I have seen same style used rims like yours sell for less but I have also seen sets with decent depth dedicated winter/snow rubber make more.

The MXV4 are useless in snow, that is what I have on the summers and I ended up down the end of the drive with them on.

I paid £100 for mine (thanks to AW8 ). I had two 6 mm spare tyres out of that as well that fit on my summerwheels.

Supply / demand etc, think this year with the bad snow no winter wheels would ever be cheap.

I think winter wheels for X5s will take a while to settle down to the old cheap-as-chips prices for 17"s that no-one wanted before the snows all started in 2009 with a vengeance - they have become increasingly difficult to get, so just over £200 doesn't sound too bad. Difficult to judge tyres from a pic, you can always check with a depth meter when you get them. Not the greatest winter rubber as said, but if they have reasonable depth left, they are known to last very well and you should be able to sell them on, as they are more of an "all season " tyre. You should recover around £100 -£120 for the tyres, making the alloys a pretty good buy. I used to use the not-very-stylish Style 56 "daisy" / elliptical alloys on my 3.0i - those were only £50 but the star-type you have bought look a lot better and I would have been happy at that price in these times.

As a comparison, I had to buy 18" winters for my 4.8, sold the 17"s on very quickly with very new Vredesteins (only one winter old)and the 'orrible style 56s, for £380. I paid £350 for the 18" set, style 58s, I think they are, they had good 255/55R18 allweather tyres on, sold tyres on ebay for £180. So £170 for the alloys and new 18" Vredies at £120 each from Tyremen before all hell let loose and stocks ran out, and my X was sorted for the winter - just in time. Have now sourced an extra matching alloy which I will keep with a brand new Vredie on it as it is unlikely I will be able to replace it in the middle of a bad winter as they sell out so fast. Bought the 4.8 end July 2010 and ordered the tyres instantly, before I had even found some wheels.
I think the used smaller OEM alloys will be less easy to find unless people are changing cars and selling their winters on. Ebay Germany often has sets for sale though, as people have to have winter sets there, so always a few sets for sale on German Ebay and many will ship to the UK.
I was lucky with my new company Ford Kuga - it came with silly 19" wheels which were an expensive option I really could have done without (but actually look pretty good now I think of it!) and I thought OMG what about snow....and with Kugas being a newish model car, very few OEM used wheels about, but I found a set of 17" standard OEM wheels for the car by chance on ebay for £210 funnily enough and bought some used Dunlop M3 winters with around 5mm left (only cost £25 each) which will last for a season as new winters are not available anywhere yet or are crazy prices (like £300 a tyre.....)

Make a note everyone - buy your new Winter tyres in the middle of summer...........I bought mine end July, before prices started to rocket in October and sell out in November........

Hmmm........Ironic that I am reading this whilst absent a winter set & having partly pointed you two in the right direction re winter set's before I recieved approval from the accounts department & by which time the better deals have been harder to find.

I'm 100% genuinely NOT bitter towards either of you. Indeed I commend you both for taking such fine advice (whether considered in part or in full)

More irony ; in that my Winter wheel fund has been trully swallowed up & some by my Winter Domestic Oil Bills.

Reminds me I must order yet more oil - Thats 1500 litres since 13/12/10 at a cost of over £1000 to supply a 3 bed bungalow

3rd irony is that I have to leave the mains supplied, (please dont ask), gas fire on in the main living area & just to keep the place reasonably warm.

Oh the joys of renting & not being able to find a suitable house to buy - prices & supply here seem to have adjusted in line with winter tyre costs in recent months..........Once again please don't ask
