Febi

Post by henrym3 » Mon Jul 10, 2017 7:52 pm

Would people consider Febi as an OEM supplier of wheel sensors? Fitted rear left a few weeks ago everything good until yesterday on the M3 at speed, all lights on, then bang trans failsafe on and defaults to 4th gear. Drove for some distance (10 mile) like this. Then able to pull in and switch off. Good to go, so got into London, lights on again, no speedo, done about 2 hours like this in stop go traffic, lights won't go out by switching off, key out for 5 mins. On way home running 80+ bang trans failsafe, defaults to 4th. Go about 20 mile like this thinking things over, past history of similar fault, pull in disconnect the AFM and throttle body, all lights go out, no trans failsafe. drive 100+ miles and no problems. On diagnostics today faults stored were r/l wheel sensor no signal and trans fault of no output signal, I presume from when it defaulted to 4th.
When doing the sensor I did check down the hole and spun the wheel, no sign of rust or dirt, no wear marks on old sensor, any ideas welcome.

If you remove the new sensor and there is no signs of contact / damage it could be that your original sensor was OK and the problem could lie with the wiring, someone on here had to change the sensor wiring recently

Yes, I read that Horizon but my problem is that the fault at the moment is 800 miles apart, the checks bring up nothing untoward, this is similar to how the f/l sensor developed ie large gaps between faults, the gaps narrowed until it was daily, that was sorted with the ABS module being sent for repair. Even though the fault said f/l sensor. (replaced twice) Do you know if this is a likely option, have you ever heard of the ABS module being at fault for rear sensors.

I'd have to check in work later but if I remember correctly febi has a 2 year warranty
I'd consider it pretty close to oem because most of the stuff I've got for my x5 from febi seems to have had the bmw part numbers ground off

Thanks for that, always thought Febi, Lemforder, Meyle were top notch replacement parts, not sure where to go with this as I've been using the vehicle all week and it's been fine. Think I'll bury my head in the sand and hope it was a one off spurious incident.

Febi has a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty..... I was pretty sure it was no quibble but I can't find any info on that

Well, my burying my head in the sand with this fault lasted a few days and the problem is back. So, had a WAG (in my case "wild arsed guess") and put the ABS module in to be checked out, low and behold it had a fault with the r/l wheel sensor connections, repaired for £25 which I thought was a brilliant price. Although I haven't fitted it yet due to rain I am confident it will resolve the problem.
