Hi Mogsyman

I agree if the car is being used on a daily basis the M50d would probably be a more practical option that the X5M, especially when doing higher mileages as the fuel consumption is a lot better and that torque is great for overtaking  :) and it's probably a lot better on depreciation as there is a higher demand for diesels at the moment.

However, I think we are now all concerned about the future of diesels as there are so many on the road after the government encouraged them with lower co2 emissions originally, but they have now started a u turn. This knocks the market and the consumers view and confidence which the uncertainty brings. I even remember that some people on here with diesel X5's have commented they would think about going petrol next time because they are doing less mileage.

So you pay your money and take your choice. Whichever one you pick they are nice cars to drive, and for shreksta as he said he is only doing low mileage about 80 miles a week it's a tough decision to make. As Condor said it's best go and test drive them whether a petrol or a diesel one and you will know which suits you best.

Re the stonechipping problem,
the E70 also had this problem and BMW repaired the areas (repainted them) under warranty, due to the large 20" wheels, and then fitted the bad road package basically clear plastic film to the front of the rear doors and rear arch and rear of the sill to protect them from damage.

Graeme

So it may npbe worth looking into that to help or fitting mud flaps which don't look grapeat but are functional.

Bought the BMW rivets of Ebay and the mudflaps
From

http://www.autochoicedirect.co.uk/pr...ud-flaps-mf64/

Part number MF64

Took about 2 hours as its easier if you remove the front wheels

Dont look to bad and I am sure they will stop the chips on the rear doors these 21 inch wheels through up plenty

My only issue is the number of small stone chips appearing on the front of the rear wheel arch but I guess that's big fat wheels for you.

I had the same issue om my 2015 X6M hence I have just fitted these to me new one .Image

Interesting, do you have a picture of the entire side of the car please?

Thanks and appreciated.

I think they work on a darker colour, not sure on grey?

My aim really was to save the rear doors, my 2015 X6M after 16000 miles both rear doors where peppered with stone chips, this car has only done 1000 miles and there were a few chips already so hopefully this will solve the problem. I am surprised BMW has not started to put a clear film on like I am sure I have seen on the M3 and M4 models.

Some people on the BMW X5M/X6M forum in the states have there cars repainted under warranty and the 3M film added.

I'm surprised too.  Given it was standard on the E70 series with 20" wheels after owners had issues around the world, it ought to have been looked at for future models too!  My E71 with 20" never suffered though (different arch shape I suppose?), but I fitted mud flaps from Day 1 too.

Yes mine is fitted with 21 inch wheels so guess it's even worse.
