Dash speakers

Just pulled the door cards off & noticed that there are no tweeters where the speaker grills are(next to the door mirrors). I'm guessing that there are speakers behind the grills in the dash but can't hear any sound coming from them. Is there a way to check what I've got without getting in the dash?

Put the last 7 of your VIN into a VIN decoder (BMWvin.com) and see what option the car was built with.  That will then give a clue as to the number of speakers fitted when built.  You may only have a basic set up which was 6 speakers if memory serves.  The updated versions had 8 or more, and DSP added a sub too.

I've done the VIN check thing as I'm similarly interested in upgrading drivers - but nothing about speakers is shown..

Mine had S676 HIFi Speaker system.  If there is no mention of a speaker option then you have the basic system only.  I think to top System was marked as Professional HiFi or Individual HiFi

Bmw vin didn't mention anything about speakers or sub so I'm guessing I have the basic package. If I upgrade the fone speakers with new Mids/ tweeters, will I need to disconnect the dash speaker as well?
