Sit in the car. Is the steering wheel off centre when the wheels are straight? Post back and let me know

Re: 4x4 warning light on
It has two new rear tyres, the front ones are 75% worn, the steering wheel is just off center when driving straight ahead

Re: 4x4 warning light on
My old car used to have that warning and it popped up exactly like you say - after approx 8 miles. I had a 4 wheel alignment done and the light stayed out.
Re: 4x4 warning light on
Read the error codes or get someone to do it.

As someone else said it is likely that it is the tracking. So your wheels tyres are straight and the steering wheel isn't so it is throwing the readings out on the steering angle sensor.
That's why I was asking where the steering wheel sits.
First port of call is to get the tracking down - it needs done anyway, and will wear out tyres if not done. needs to be someone who has the kit to do four wheel drive alignment as I recall.
They should also then have the kit to clear out the error code.
You'll soon know if that has fixed it or not as the light will come on or it won't.
It may be that the steering angle sensor needs replaced, it could be that its a wheel sensor, it could be an issue with the diff and so on. But as your tracking needs done anyway start there and report back

Re: 4x4 warning light on
As it happens I now have the same issue. i start up, no warning lights. i drive anywhere between 200 yards and a mile and then the light comes on. sometimes it will flicker on and off for a few hundred yards then stay one. Steering wheel is off centre so tracking is being done next week. we shall see.......

Glad to hear it. It's the obvious one that most don't do first.

And can save a few quid on not having to replace tyres too by getting it done. My local place only charges to adjust not to check so I get it checked twice a year when the summer/winter wheels/tyres get swapped over and back again
