Hello,
Just introducing myself.
I'm Matt from farnham, Surrey, looking to purchase my first X5, looked at loads, still haven't found her, looking for a 4.4 petrol, even considering getting LPG, or converting to LPG.
Any advice, pointers in right direction, greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

Hi and welcome to the forum.
As Horizon says read the buyers guide its is very good. Make a list of needed items and wishes, depending on your needs whether a daily driver and ping highe mileage the diesels are also good with a lot better fuel consumption. A petrol 4. 15-18 round town a diesel near 20-25, on a run a petrol driven gently 20-25 and a diesel 30-35.
The electrics need checking several times, watch out for panoramic roofs as they can fail and very costly. Check air suspension on rear use press button on dash binnacle to see if any errors. Check for water leaks or damp footwells esp in rear as door plastic membranes can leak,be torn and let water in. Check if folding mirrors work fold in and out , and if put in reverse the near side mirror should dip.
Check rear tyres as they can have excessive tyre wear on the inside edges, and look for same make as a good indication of maintenance.
The X5 earlier 5 speed boxes can be prone to probs, BMW says sealed for life but they a few have had probs the later cars with the 6 speed are more reliable.
Look for a good spec car as most were options, a lot have electric seats but heated seater were extra etc. The sat nav is ok and doesn't do post codes on the official version.
Look for a well maintained car with history and receipts. A good car is great a bad one can be a money pit as some have found.
Retro fit of kit on the E53 is easier than on the later E70.
