random bongs.

Post by themoog » Wed May 24, 2017 9:50 am

The wifes X5 seems to be going mad.. The check engine oil level popped up last week and it needed an oil service so I did that. Check oil level is still bonging (level is correct), check brake lights bongs (nothing wrong with them) and now the suspension inactive is bonging.. But that's ok.
Is this a battery disconnect for 30 min job?
The battery is only 18 months old and ill check it in a bit but I don't suspect it really.

Sounds like the electrics are having a tizzy fit.  Take the battery connections off and leave for a while (touch the +ve & -VED together to kill any residual charge too.

Battery could be dying if only used on short journeys, and several members have reported Bosch (if that is what you have) batteries dying well inside warranty.. >:(

I'll do that in a bit. I think its a Duracell battery. I'll check.

Now the Chuffin remote key won't unlock it... Only the boot.

Nope.. I thinks its gone to transport mode. When we first got the car the remote didn't work. I had a local BMW expert turn transport mode off and its been ok since. Unfortunately he has relocated.. I wasn't expecting it to do that by disconnecting the battery.
It's amazing how a simple thing like the remote not working feels like a massive inconvenience..how lazy have we become? The wife is gonna go mad when she finds out..

Hmmm.  Taking the battery off shouldn't have done that, especially given the battery reset is the norm for any oddities....almost like 'take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning....'

I wouldn't have thought so either. I've spoke to Tim Spicer who isn't far from me and he says he will take a look.
Boot opens withe remote, doors don't. Door switch inside doesn't work- all the hallmarks of TM. What is it with these cars..

I found out the other day - and recharged my spare key too...
by sitting it on a Cordless Electric Toothbrush charging base for a few hours.... worked for me & may be worth considering if you have a spare key that's not been used for ages, to keep it alive.

I used my spare fob the other day, when the car opened the seat went to a new setting and heater changed from the previous setting.
Must have a memory the key fob.

I think it's detailed in handbook Glen, how to save settings to a key, they should all do it (if set up of course)

As long as key memory was enabled at delivery (my 2004 E53 needed to have it enabled) it will work with all of your keys.  We use Mem 1 & 2 and keys for storing His n Hers settings on all of our cars.

Right. Fixed. I called Tim Spicer in Duxford as he is 10 min away. He plugged in the diagnostic machine and checked for faults. He that the driver door solenoid showed a short fault. Then the transport mode was cleared and now the keys work as they should. All done for a tenner. He is my new best mate..

So presumably you replaced the solenoid or fixed what ever the short circuit was. Otherwise the next bump or pothole may induce the same fault??
