My new x5 arriving today...
So far only one pic from the detailer. Hope they did a better job with detailing than they did with the photograph!

Hi
Congrats on your new M50d.
It certainly looks good and hope you enjoy it, I'm sure it will bring a big smile when your driving it.
What colour interior did you go for?
Graeme

Re: My new x5 arriving today... reviewed and questions
Thanks Graeme
I went for the boring old black. It stands up well to the children. One day I'll have a lighter interior.....
I spent yesterday afternoon getting to grips with the new Idrive - which I mostly like. In particular I like the fact that when you have the map on the screen you can just use your fingers to move it around to see the bits that were previously off the screen. The old "interactive map" setting - which is also still there) is much clunkier.
Bluetooth streaming with Napster and audible, as well as just from my iphone all seems to work well.
I also discovered a couple of days ago that i could watch video on the screen so long as the car wasnt moving. I found this out on the old car - when I put a usb stick with some audio in and it started to play the video that was also on the stick.
Assisted parking is fun, though I felt a bit of a tube practising it in the street. I'm loving the HUD.
One annoying thing is that in my old car it defaulted to the Birds eye view when selecting reverse (I could toggle to the rear camera if I wanted), whereas on this one it defaults to the rear camera and I have to toggle to the Birds eye. I suspect I can change this somehow but couldnt figure it out!
One final thing, when in Sport and accelerating hard the engine sounds really good. Is this "enhanced" and do I still sound like a taxi to people outside the car?

Re: My new x5 arriving today... reviewed and questions
TheM50D does have enhanced sound, via a unit attached to the amp. It essentially creates the noise in the cabin, so no external 'taxi' stares

Re: My new x5 arriving today...
Thanks BMPHIL - so the car sounds great under acceleration to me and all the passengers. But people in the street won't hear what I hear and will instead just hear the regular diesel (taxi) sound?

Agreed.
I'm impressed with the sound of my 50d however people in the street still think I'm a regular taxi judging by the noise from the outside )
Great cars and when in sport and the gear lever shifted over to the left it can really pick up some speed very quickly

A real b*gger to keep clean though
Blow out doesn't sound fun. How was it to handle? I'm not even going to ask how much the tyres were.

Re: My new x5 arriving today...
That is a beauty indeed. Whilst doing man maths, with the miles I do in the X5, I am leaning more towards the X5M rather than the 50D as a replacement.

I only knew about it because of the noise and 'gong of death' associated with the message on the screen. No drama at all.
I'll tell you anyway....
First quote, £1,700!!
Finally picked up a set of SP Sport Maxx for £980 - absolute bargain.
Very pleased with the Dunlops, quieter than the PZeros.
