tyres
Re: tyres
Sorry never had runflats on my E53 , but friends of mine have newer model's and when i driven them they feel harsh or more solid might be a difference suspension so not sure but i hear them complain all the time ,
Anytime i talk to any of them and ask how's the X going tyres is sure to come up in the conversation

Re: tyres
Yes ive run them for a good 2 years with no problems at all.
Ride quality is vastly improved, and wear is good so long as you get the wheel geo done CORRECTLY.
I had no problems with the non star rating.
Just on another point. I see the Michelin "star" rated tyres NON rft,s are now aprox £750 ish for a full staggered set up,, from Camskill.
The Toyos are about £550 ish...

Re: tyres
I went from runflats to non-star standard tyres, I think I fitted Kumho, which are standard fit on VW and some Merc, so reasonable quality.
I was very sceptical about the non-star tyres supposedly causing transfer box problems, so went ahead, new fronts and rears together.
After a short time I noticed a whining noise at exactly 60mph, above or below it disappeared.
After various checks, I replaced them with star marked Goodyer RFs and the noise was gone.
I still don't know if non star tyres can cause transmission damage, but given my experience, I'm not going to chance it.

Re: tyres
When I bought mine it had Kuhmo's on and it felt like I was driving on ice when it rained.... Had Toyo's on my previous car which were great, plenty of grip and lasted, but then again the carwasn't over 2 ton in weight!

Stick to RFT star marked, last thing you want is gearbox problems.

any one used Toyo Proxes T1 Sport on their x5 on 20" thinking of coming away from runflats.

Im curious, why would quality tyres "throw you off the road".
Ive had the Toyos on my 08 plate 3.0sd/35d for a good 2.5 years with no problems whatsoever. No gearbox whine, nothing...
They are decent tyres.
Maybee if you were to get some "lingalong,s" then ide understand....

Hi Nine468 when I made the quote I was not referring to Toyos but Grumpywurzel's experience with Kumhos.
I don't claim to be a expert on tyre's but we pay a lot of money for these cars and to go for the cheaper option to me is a bad choice.
I bought my car with Bridgestone tyre's on and they grip like glue I will replace with the same.
I'm not trying to tell anybody what to do I'm no way near qualified to, but just voicing my opinion.

To add to this, I junked the Kuhmo's asap and I am on my second set of Bridgestones. Just need to learn how not to go through a set of tyres so quickly
