CHECK NUMBER PLATE LIGHT ALERT MESSAGE

Hi ALL
Having fitted a rear view camera with integrated LED light I now have the "Check Number Plate Light" alert message coming up. All is fine with the light and obviously it isn't a canbus error free type, but is there a way to override this message somehow??

Coding: ie, turn off the light check system for the number plate lights with a scanner. Fit a resister across the bulb feed wires to kid the canbus that it is reading the resistance of a normal bulb

HAD SOME FEED BACK - 3  Ohms has been mentioned several times. :thumbup:

I wouldn't have thought that 3 ohms is the correct value .

I may be wrong  ( it has been known )  but considering  a 5 watt number plate bulb -

Watts = Volts x Amps  so Amps = Watts / Volts    5 /12 = 0.6 amps -  you are trying to mimic the 5watt bulb with a resistor

Resistance = Volts / Current (Amps) R = 12/ 0.6 = 20 ohms


Using a 3 ohm resistor -
Current = Volts / Resistance    so Current = 12/3  = 4 Amps

Power dissipated ( Watts) = Volts x Amps  = 12/4  = 48 WATTS


A 3 Ohm 25 Watt resistor is going to glow in the dark 

If you are going to use one I would mount it outside the car in the airflow to keep it cool 

I would have thought that 20 or 22 ohms would be nearer the mark .

To be totally honest with you I never got to the bottom of sorting this problem out on my X5, and since the original posting I now know when the ignition is either on or off cause to the warning sound for the rear plate LED light, would be interested still on how to rectify the problem as the error free load resistors I had with the lights never worked

I bought error free LED bulbs from HIDS Direct, I never had any warnings, also Scanner 1.4.0 or Carly can code out the warning/ bulb check

Mathematically correct..
However the bulb check usually doesn't need to see the full load current or resistance,but something..
My trailer lights caused an issue (with the OEM bulb failure module) when i changed to LED.  But a 2.7K resistor in parallel with the lights sorted that.

It may be a case of trying a few values and seeing what it accepts.

But personally just turn the bulb failure off for number plate lights, not forgetting there are 3 checks in the LCM for Hot, Cold and In service.

Okay
1- So how do you go about turning the bulb failure for number plate lights function off???
2 - Is this accessed via the hidden menu?
3 - If YES how is this accessed?
