Swapping my 40d with a 40e
Swapping my 40d with a 40e
Hi all
So finally decided, and closed with my dealer to swap my Msport 40d 16 plate with a Msport 40e 16 plate as well. Details as follows:
40d msport
Crystal white
Msport
Pan roof
7 seats
Black interior
Sun protection
5,5k miles
Changing to:
40e
Glacier Silver
msport
Pan roof
Black interior
Enhanced bluetooth
Surround view
Adaptive headlights with high beam assist
Cold weather pack
Sun protection
Comfort seats front with lumbar support
American oak interior
9,5k miles
All in all quite pleased - our other car is an i3 - we are on our second one having had a 2014 and now a 2016 - we like our green cars and dont have a too long commute
I have never driven the 40e so hopefully it is nice as well - collecting next week it looks like
For the ones that have driven it, what should i expect? I know it will be less punchy then my current one but would be interested - i've bought several cars from this dealer so got a good deal that push me to buy this one
I was going for a factory order but got this from the bmw factory so happy days saved me a few grand
::)

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
Will be interested to hear your thoughts on the "e" once you've got it.
Current: M50i arctic grey (G05)
Previous: RRS P400 HST, F15 M50d,F15 30d Msport, E70 35d Msport, 530i, Boxster, 330Ci Sport Vectra GSi, Chevrolet Lumina, Vxl Astras
It'll be allright in the end. If it isn't allright it isn't the end

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
I've had my 40e for exactly a year & the mpg is unbelievable.I've visited the petrol station twice this year,in contrast to my previous car, a E61 M5.It is best for frequent short trips with charging ideally at both ends although even on long journeys the battery helps with economy.I would recommend it!
Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
The only downside I read are residuals, are you at all concerned by that?

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
With the "bad press" that diesels are receiving I can't see it depreciating faster than them in the medium to long term.
Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
Car arrived today at the dealer, delivery next week -it looks absolutely brill
Plate is YF so probably management car (?)- it has the digital dials that I didnt have on my 16 plate, when did that change? both were built within 3 months of each other - From memory the vin decoder showed somethig like february (40d) to may built 2016 (40e)
The comfort seats are amazing and the sound system professional is a big jump from the basic one
Looking froward to taking delivery

Digital dash is an extra cost option.

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
In the real world what MPG are owners getting ?
Also does the car drive and behave like a normal F15 X5 ?
How long does it take for a full charge ? and does anyone know the actual cost of the electricity for a full charge ?
Many thanks

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
Ok, 10 days with the car, and having driven about 1700 miles here are my thoughts:
- Absolutely amazing to drive without the diesel vibration and in pure silence (even the petrol engine is very smooth)
- For my local driving I was getting 99.9 mpg (max) but after 100 miles the tank didn't move so basically free of the use of fuel - bearing in mind I have a good use of the 19 miles - in real life I get about 16 miles at the moment
- I did about 1500 miles this easter holiday (bearing in mind mainly 90 mph in France and about 80 mph in Belgium) and averaged 30.5 mpg. I have not charged once so in pure petrol driving which I was very happy with
- The engine torque when charged is amazing, and the petrol only is very fast indeed as well
All in all I can't fault the car yet, I like it better than the 40d which I was a bit concerned to compare with in the beginning as bought it blind without driving a 40e.
Tbh with you I can't think why a 40d would make sense considering the bad press on diesel, road tax, and petrol's 30mpg in the highway at 90mph....
I believe I was seeing 10% better mpg at 70mph...
All in all recommended, quite a good technology - the switch from electric to petrol is nearly impossible to feel as well which is quite interesting
Charging on a normal plug is about 4-5 hours....if thinking of it, go for it
I am biased being an owner of a i3 as well, but the logo e-drive inside always puts a smile on my face anyway

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
thanks for sharing the information.
I just got a 30d a few days before the press went mad about diesels.
I mainly have the X5 as I tow my track car around on a big trailer - I wonder what the 40e is like towing..?

Bringing this bttt.
Looking for any further feedback on the 40e if possible please? Pros/cons? Estimated cost of charging? Distances possible on electric only?
Any other adopters happy to provide any feedback also?

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
The pros are are great fuel efficiency & performance & in my case no VED (being registered in 3/16).I think that I read somewhere that the cost of a full charge from the mains is about £1 but I may be wrong on that. I obtain about 15 miles on electric, although it seems the decrease with colder weather;can't think of any cons.
Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
15 miles? You mean 150 surely from the battery?
If genuinely 15, I don't see the point or am I missing something?

Re: Swapping my 40d with a 40e
No it is 15 miles, and those figures are typical of many hybrids. Even the 2-series hybrid won’t get me to work (30 miles) on its internal battery and would have to switch to petrol before I got there as well as running on petrol all the way back! They really are pointless unless you are doing really short journeys.
Most of the time hybrids spend their time running on internal combustion engines for normal use but they are good for those with Company cars as it reduces their BIK liability. Ex colleagues of mine bought them solely to reduce BIK liability on their annual tax bill.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
