TYRE PRESSURE?

Does anyone know what the tyre pressures should be on the 19" X5 alloy wheels?

Andy, I don't know off the top of my head but if you open the drivers door, there should be a lable attached to the 'B' pillar with the required pressures stated depending on how the car is loaded i.e. driver on his/her own to fully load

Interesting to see you're a Titan fan too. As well as the X5 I have a Titan Silver E36 convertible for the summer and the wife has a Titan Silver E46 Touring

I meant to post when I had 2 new Toyo Proxes put on the front by my local fitter recently.
I thought the steering was very light and when I eventually checked the tyre pressure 2 weeks later (the tyre pressure warning light came on!), they had very nearly 3 bar in them!

I lowered it 2.4 (I know the door plate says 2.2 but i didn't want to drop it too much too quickly and I have 2.4 in the rears).

Anyway, what's the likely problem of having way too much pressure in the tyres?

You'll have extra tyre wear on the centre of the tread pattern. If they've only been on 2 weeks, presuming you haven't driven 1000's of miles I'm sure you won't have caused any major damage.

Firstly I would check for anything that could have caused a puncture etc & if no signs of anything then I would take the wheels back to where the tyres were fitted!
If the tyres have lost all the air in 2 weeks, the beading may not have a tight seal and may need a bit of tyre glue! If this is the case the tyre garage can not charge you for doing this!

Hi Waka

Twice now I've been in to have something done with the tyres and twice they put 40 psi in. When I queried it last time the guy told me he was surprised that my car only was supposed to have 32 as others mostly 40 as other large 4x4. I will always tell them in future. And it's right you will get excess wear in the middle but 2 weeks should be fine if you just doing normal runs

Nice E36 you got there. Looks great on those wheels. And yeah, I love silver cars too. Started with my first 318is many years ago in Sterling Silver, then went thru a Cordoba Red 318is and an Avus Blue 328i Sport before realising that I missed the Silver. So when it came to getting the M3 a few years back it had to be Silver. Getting the X5 in 2007 was then a no-brainer, just regret not spending a few extra quid and getting a Titan Silver 4.8!

Andy the tyre pressure didn't drop of its own accord, I let them down to nearer the recommended pressure. I think we're confusing bar and psi here

Penny, yes it's worrying if tyre fitters don't know what pressure they should be using and/or can't read the plate that's on the drivers door frame of almost any car telling them what to use!
I love these Toyos though, I got them just before the second set of snow, and going from balding (but legal!) Michelin Diamaris to these is like night and day!
