E53 4.6is price

Post by Holsy10 » Sun Apr 16, 2017 11:17 pm

Hi peeps I'm at a crossroads with the X so wanted some ideas with what todo. It's a 52 with 108k estoril blue.

Do I keep it in turn set aside for costs like gearbox and chain and tensioners in the future.

Or

Do I sell it now.

If I'm to keep it the main question is. If said parts are changed will the X5's still be holding there value or even increase in value.
Or is it wasted money.

If you are keeping it for another 4 or 5 years then I would do the timing chains now, and wait for any gearbox problems if they arise. My box was still working perfectly when I sold it at around 120000 miles. You will not add any value by doing work like that but it would be easier to sell  at the previously mentioned value. If the chains fail then the car would only be worth parting out for spares.
Recently sold mine for 2k in full working condition but I needed the space.......

Put some more info up on the x, we'll be able to offer a better opinion etc etc
Never know, there could be someone lurking out there, lol.

Well I'm In 2 minds.

1) get rid

2) keep it and hope it appreciates in price but if there not going to go up then I'd rather buy a new car.

Keep it. Better the devil you know.. Besides- what other V8 options have you got?
As for the tensioners, put aside £2k for when/if they go.  We have 2 4.4s, the chain went on one at 148k and the other is on 75k at the moment.
Just get the transmission serviced for a few hundred pounds to sort that worry.

Very unlikely the price is going to rise any time soon.  You need rarity & demand to make that happen, and neither are present in the market at the moment.

Funny this should come up, Just today I saw a 03 diesel my son's mate bought for 3.5k 150k miles. I have rarely seen such a dog, If that what people are paying these days then mine is worth 10k. One shouldn't assume thing are going to break 8) There are plenty of people with huge mileage and still going fine.

In the short term I think the prices of all these cars will drop like stones especially with all the ultra-low emissions charges being introduced.

Once they get rarer on the roads the price should go up....that's what I am hoping for,but before that I will buy my list of spares(diffs, tran, leathers, console etc)

I'm actually quite surprised by the prices on auto trader, some around the 100k mark hover at 5-6k and only seem to stay on a couple of days, so can only assume they sell. There doesn't appear to be that many still around.

I'm in the same situation as you, debating selling up my 03 4.6.

I've been watching prices for a while, there's a lot of overpriced stuff kicking around on auto trader etc at the moment, stuff at good prices has sold and some of those cars have been on since the end of last year, 8-12 months ago there were a few 4.6's around for 4K with 100k and 4.8's for less than 6k, some cars you think have sold will be relisted 2 weeks or a month later, and the ads that say "just in" or "awaiting preparation" are a load of ball cocks  :o
