Voice control

Post by NehalX5 » Wed Apr 12, 2017 6:43 pm

Our car has the voice control button on the steering wheel however it doesn't do anything when pressed. Looking at the spec, voice control isn't specified on this car. Is there anyway to retrofit this to the car? (RealOEM has no kit for this...)

All the steering wheels seem to have the button, but very few have the voice control, I have it on the 330i but it's like Siri, not worth repaying yourself 10 times, it's quicker to do it manually

Have a look at BMW Coders on line, however a quick search shows that not only do you need hardware - as in the microphone - and you also need an FSC code from BMW to enable to function from within the CIC computer.  That may be the challenge as they may not provide said code.

TBH I have it on both my X6 and Škoda Superb and find that by the time I have remembered the correct syntax for the command, then repeated it ten times as above then sworn at it, I might just as easily have pushed the button.  >:(

The manual has about 20-pages of commands  :o

:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

When I enquired for my E61 a few years ago I was quoted £400 for the pleasure of them activating it,
providing the hardware is there.
Hardware will be already installed if you have Professional Nav, Professional HiFi and bluetooth phone prep.

It is pre facelift so it has the CCC iDrive system. I do have profession sat nav however, as well as the 200W upgraded HiFi as well as Bluetooth phone prep. Could it just be coded in then?

My E61 was a 2005 with CCC and BMW at Derby said it was just a question of them applying the FSC code to the CCC.
I wouldn't however, doubt that £400 of your hard earned could be spent on something better.  :D
