dont buy that from a dealer ... febi do it p/no 45194 and it'll probably be a genuine one in the box with the bmw number removed

Now here's a dilemma, with the intake manifold, rocker covers, water-pump/thermostat and most of the front end components and wiring off the car do I :
1) Change the Intake Manifold Cover Valve /OSV just because the intake manifold is off, as no problems have arisen from the existing unit?
2) Again install a new water-pump and thermostat just cause it's currently off or just reinstall what's there?
The recorded mileage is just over 91500 miles, so just like to know if anyone else has had any experience's or advice
thanks
Rich

When you took the inlet manifold off, was there much oil inside it? As for the OSV I would just wash it out with something like white spirits but I definitely would renew the little pipe underneath the OSV and ensure the pipe down to the sump is clean. It would appear that you are going to renew the PCV now anyway so all of that should get another 90k without issue. As for the water pump, thats a tough one, if it doesn't bust the bank I'd renew especially if you intend to keep the vehicle for a number of years.

Hi henrym3
You mentioned in a previous reply that "From underneath you can unscrew this pipe (item 14) and if you detach the other end from the OSV you can remove and ensure it's clean/ free flowing inside.”
Image
(Are these Items labeled correctly, as I can't tell my OSV from my PCV as my heads not working, I think it's heat stroke as it's nearly 11deg. lol)
Questions:
1)  Would blowing down the pipes with compressed air work as efficiently (as I change Pipes 4 & 5 back in 2012 and they are clear)?
2) How far up on the sump is this connection? If I take it off would I have to drain the oil or plug the hole after taking off the vehicle to stop any loss of engine oil?
3) Is it easy to get too with the Aluminium Under-Shield in place?

Also just like to check / confirm that the inner nuts also need removing to take the crankcase (rocker box) cover off

You have everything labeled correctly, no, you can't get at the oil return pipe with the alloy sump guard on, from memory that pipe is secured below the oil level in the sump so putting compressed air down it is likely to aerate and froth the oil.. Do replace pipe 9 and at least check pipe 12 for and blockage or softness of the pipe. Thats the pipe you took off and broke item 13.
The rocker cover has a mixture of collar screws (like the one on the right) and nuts, Once you have removed either a nut or collar from each position the rocker should lift off.
Of course if your vehicle has had proper servicing from new most of these things will be in pretty good condition and you are just doing preventive maintenance. On a 15 year old vehicle someone along the line probably hasn't done everything they should have

Confused-dot-com ??? "TO BE OR NOT TO BE THE FEBI 45195"
Hi just like to check with you about the febi part you mentioned.
Does the Febi 45194 Engine Breather Cover fit the M62 engine as some stockists
are stating that it is the wrong part for the 4.6 M62?
But going by the OEM no.11617508541 it definitely cross references to the Febi No. 45194,
and there is only a mention of it fitting the 4.4i N62 engine (unless this is a typ-o error),
although not referencing to the 4.6 M62 engine ???
Your thoughts please
many thanks
Rich

i took the part number that was posted on here and ran it through a website we use in work called repexpert that checks the input part number for other manufacturers cross overs

that febi part number covers

I resealed mine with RTV 2 years ago and it's still ok, as I'm sure you have already found once the r/h  (in your pic) screw is removed  the cover will come off. The spark plug is screwed into the cylinder head, therefore will not come off with the rocker cover as opposed to the coil packs which are secured to the rocker cover

Hi Henrym3
cast your mind back, if you will, can you remember how good the sealing face on your valley pan was when you resealed it? Only ask as having cleaned mine down I've found some pitting and wondered if I will get away with resealing this one or have to look at buying a replacement?
Here's a photo could you give me your opinion please? Cheers

I definitely didn't have any pitting, with what is showing on the picture I would buy new, simply because of the amount of work involved if it leaked again. That pitting suggests a long term leak, have you carefully checked the block in the area opposite the pitting?

BRACKET LOCATION?? (An MFI MOMENT,For those of us who remember that well loved furniture store !!)
Okay ALL
I've put everything back together but for some unknown reason I've one bracket left over (Just like those MFI Projects LOL). The bracket is very clean so I think it must be off something towards the rear of the inlet manifold, but this deliberation may be totally wrong. Here's a photo of the bracket and I wondered if anyone might know where it should be mounted?

I know it's a different engine , as mines a 3.0d, but at the rear of the engine the common rail pressure sensor has a lead that runs into the loom.
Mine had a similar bracket that was secured by the rearmost inlet manifold bolt that had a clip on it to secure the wiring that goes to the common rail sensor.
Also it had the brackets of a similar nature that were also secured by inlet manifold bolts that were to fasten the engine cover too ( the 4 bolts that hold the cover on.
Or another idea, look on real OEM at the exploded diagram to see if you can identify it.

Bloody typical, I'm not at home atm, won't be till weekend and have decided to use the Golf this week. Will look at the weekend to see if I can locate but nothing springs to mind at the moment. If Horizon is right or you find before weekend put a quick post up.
