i've had my x for about 4 months now, even cleaned the engine! but i aint noticed this before!!

is it a breather? is it supposed to be connected anywhere?

it's a bit of a stiff shaped pipe can't see that it goes anywhere!!

I think I have seen this on mine and I decided that it was a breather although I would like to know for sure what it is...

Is that a part number stamped on it? You could maybe have a look on realoem or ask at the dealers if it is the part number?

i must have just looked at the engine from a diff angle to notice it, it seems to be shaped to be there so must be ok car running fine.

but will investigate more...
