AUC 40D buying advice

Hi All,

First post, so please be gentle,

My brother is looking at AUC F15 40D and asked me to help him out as he always does when it comes to cars.
Its will be his first BMW, I had quite a few in the past and currently running a 2series GT.

My question is what are the must have options and what one can live without.

Other important question is what to look out for to avoid a lemon ?

Any other information which will make this decision easier would be highly appreciated.

I think the options are quite difficult to say as what will be important for one person may not be important for others.

Personally, I think the Reverse camera is a must - better still the surround view.  As was, 7 seats, folding mirrors, and privacy glass.  I think the other thing to be aware is that some options on earlier cars then came as standard on some of the more recent F15s.

Some people swear by the HUD and comfort seats and I'm sure there are plenty of other folks who will love other options.

For me another thing that was important was the 5 year service plan.  This is transferable between owners and gave me piece of mind that when the next service is due I wont need to pay for that!

As the man said its all personal choice.

Comfort seats , surround view, heated steering wheel, 4 zone climate control , 7 seats , folding mirrors privacy glass , 20" alloys and I don't find the run flats an issue at all.

Personally I would avoid the pan roof. You rarely open it , cant really have it open at speed without it vibrating like mad and it will go wrong. Its £££££££££ when it does. All in all a load of agro.

Electric tail gate bit of a gimmick in my book and you get frustrated waiting for it . I can push a button. Hud is a gimmick in my book and some people find it a distraction esp at night , and high beam assistant and all those other functions im not bothered about at all. Keyless entry is a security risk in my view and i like to be in control of what doors open when. ( First push drivers door, second push the rest of the doors ).

I'm really fussy about spec and colours etc., and I ended up buying new, as after spending 9 months trawling the BMW AUC website on a weekly basis I just couldn't find a nearly new AUC car in anything like the spec/colour I wanted, as far too many cars had the options fitted I didn't want, such as Pan roof, comfort access, 7 seats, active CC, and other pointless (to me) functions.

The car we're looking at has decent level of equipment but 2 previous owners, Frist BMW then a private and has just under 13k miles.

These are the readings provided by the sales executive on my request about brake pads, disk and tread depth. What do you think guys ? and whats the tread depth of new tyres.

Tyres are about half gone (if you go to the legal limit), less life remaining if like me you change at 3mm due to traction loss on wet roads etc) and depending upon size around £900+ a set.  The best advice is to change as a set, and stick with '*' marked rubber.  Other X cars are known for their sensitivity to tyre type and fitting the wrong rubber can shatter transmission parts.

I'm thinking & could be wrong your referring  to the taper wear pattern

Being entirely honest, it's a frustrating trait of BMWs, due primarily to RWD bias but equally to the high camber they run at the back for road holding.

My X5 has the same pattern, as did F07 & numerous E60's, previous RRS was equal tyre wear and I hated piloting around the bends and navigating roundabouts often felt like I'd need a tug boat to make the twisty B roads.

On a more serious note, tread wear is normal but something to be aware as the depth nears 3mm the inner shoulders will near the canvas and necessitate replacement, hence many recommend replacing or think about replacing at 3mm frustrating though normal

Though: those depth suggest it's been run at upper inflation pressures,
