X5 starting intermitent problems

Post by Rob42 » Tue Jan 31, 2017 10:13 pm

Hi all... Im after some help, i have an X5 3.0d sport on a 54 plate. When we got our first frosts the car wouldnt start straight away put did after 4 or 5 goes, when it did start it splutterd and smoked then ran perfectly all day until the next morning. It had new glow plugs, glow plug module, new fuel pump, relay and battery, still no joys... now the weather is milder its starting ok again. Our fitter at work conected it up to his machine last night deleted the codes etc but tonight however its saying, rail pressure monitoring on engine start... any idea would be great  :)

I have the "rail pressure monitoring on engine start" fault.
I am reliably informed that it is an injector.
Does your car turn over for about 2 to 3 seconds before starting and a bit longer when it is hot.

Grumpwurzel and alan thanks for your replies... they didnt say anthing about the filter i'll call them... alan it just struggles to start when its frosty, any other time it runs fine.

I'll second that from experience

One or some of your injectors will be passing dropping the rail pressure
You can get them tested at a local Bosch Centre, who then should be able to give you a report on them and options for repair.

I had all 6 of mine tested, and then 2 had to be refurbished.
£450 all in which is a lot cheaper than a new set!!
(That included new seals for installation)
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Did you get your car sorted out ?.
I had mine booked in with a local bm indi yesterday and got it sorted out properly.
After reading about this problem on many forums i came to the conclusion it was the injectors.
Got a call from the garage 4.50pm to say it was all sorted and they had fitted 2 new injectors.
Drove home as quick as i could just to see if it started any better when hot and it did first turn of the key.
:) :) :) :) :) :) :)
