air intake manifold

Post by moose04 » Sun Mar 26, 2017 7:55 pm

hello folks, i have a 2006 e53 3.0d, today ive change the four rubber o'rings from turbo to egr valve thinking it would cure air pressure loss/slow turbo pick up, can still hear pressure leaking, pipes all checked good condition took it for a run no differrent, been scouring the web saw it somewhere that a common problem is the plastic intake manifold cracking, any one had/heard about :-[ this problem

Not come across it on this Forum.  At least not in the last 6 years.

It is also possible that if the manifold was removed for any reason then the rubber seals between it and the head may have been incorrectly seated, which would cause an air leak.

rang a local bmw specialist today in derby, they've changed a few plastic inlet manifolds that have cracked/split on x5's, i'll have to book the x5 in let them first pressure test the intercooler system when i get home after a week towing my caravan fingers crossed.
rang the local dealer manifold just over £500 but it does come with the seals, well what a deal lol, might be a s/h one of ebay

To search out the exact location of the leak.... use a bit of pipe... ie vacuum cleaner hose / garden hose pipe or an engine stethoscope to root out the leak source...

There are literally DOZENS of potential leak points... so until you have discovered where it actually is, we are all guessing..

I recently had the cam cover off my machine & I MADE new leaks due to the perished pipes finally breaking up when I was tinkering & assembling the engine after swapping out the exhaust manifold.

Hey Moose,
Have a look at my post about the crack in my Vacuum Tank when I first purchased the vehicle...

Made a huge difference after replacing and easy to check out.
Good luck sorting it out  8)
